Who is Frank Curkovic?
(aka Furanku)
Hello! I’m Frank Curkovic, or Furanku— that’s the Japanese pronunciation of Frank. After living in Japan for over a decade and with a Japanese wife and three lively sons, Japan felt like home.
Originally from Canada, I’ve spent more than 20 years as an international educator, exploring diverse cultures and classrooms across Australia, South Korea, England, Japan, and now Singapore.
My teaching journey has spanned from kindergarten to grade 12, with a special passion for the Middle Years (grades 6-8). Over the years, I’ve worn many hats—Art teacher, classroom instructor, IT facilitator, Drama teacher, and Design & Technology educator.

Frank’s Journey
From my early days dabbling in art to my current pursuit of success as a middle-aged artist, creativity has always been my passion. There was a time in my late 20s to early 30s when I stepped away from art, but a period of introspection made me realize how deeply I missed it. Determined to reconnect, I committed to making art a daily practice, no matter how small.
In my teaching career, I’ve been dedicated to spreading the joy of art and learning through various online platforms. With years of experience both as an artist and educator, I’ve developed a knack for creating engaging content and artwork that resonates with audiences. Yet, I know there’s always more to discover and achieve on this creative journey!
Frank’s Art Style
As an art educator, my style is a dynamic blend of various media and techniques, but when it comes to my personal work, I’m drawn to bold illustrative and design approaches. I thrive on creating vibrant, sometimes messy pieces that play with thick lines and reimagine popular culture and retro characters.
My influences range from modernist cartooning and Japanese kawaii aesthetics to music-inspired illustrations. Lately, my art has been evolving towards illustrative narratives with a striking graphic edge, combining these eclectic influences into a unique visual language.
Frank’s Aims
Creativity, experimentation, and lifelong learning are the driving forces behind everything I do. Through my engaging online content and personal artwork, I strive to ignite your imagination, help you hone your skills, and celebrate the transformative journey of artistic expression and education.
I’m excited to dive into new horizons, exploring the world of publishing and the potential of offering online courses to share these passions even further. Join me as we embark on this creative adventure together!
